1. What Is a Water Cooling Tower? How Does It Work?
A water cooling tower is a mechanical heat rejection device that removes waste heat from industrial processes by transferring it to the atmosphere through evaporation. From injection molding molds and induction furnaces to air compressors and large HVAC systems, virtually every heat-generating machine relies on a cooling tower to maintain stable operating temperatures.
Cooling tower operating principle — based on evaporative heat transfer:
- Hot water inlet — Process water heated to 35–45°C is pumped to the top of the tower.
- Spray distribution — Cooling tower spray nozzles distribute hot water evenly over the fill media surface.
- Air–water contact — The fan motor drives air upward; this airflow absorbs heat from the water film, accelerating evaporation.
- Heat rejection — Approximately 1–2% of the water evaporates, carrying a large amount of latent heat out of the system.
- Cooled water return — Water cooled to 28–32°C collects in the sump and is pumped back to the process.

3. Package Type & Mini Cooling Tower
A package type cooling tower is fully assembled and tested at the factory, then delivered ready for immediate commissioning. Only pipe and electrical connections are required on site — no additional structural work needed.
The mini water cooling tower (HK 17) is designed for single-machine applications such as one injection molding machine, small compressor or laser workstation: 40,000 kcal/h · 130 kg empty weight · 0.75 kW motor · 550 mm fan.
Key advantage: A package-type tower can be commissioned the day it arrives. No foundation casting, no extended installation period — plug in and run.
4. Metal Housing Options — Carbon Steel, Galvanized, Stainless Steel
HK Makine manufactures only metal-body cooling towers. The right housing material is selected based on your water chemistry and operating environment:
Carbon Steel ST37 — Epoxy Coated
The most common choice in Turkey. High mechanical strength with specialized epoxy coating for corrosion protection. Ideal for injection molding, compressors and general industrial use.

5. Cooling Tower Fill Media, Spray Nozzles & Fan Motor
Cooling Tower Fill Media
The fill media is the critical zone where heat transfer occurs. HK Makine uses chemically resistant PVC film-type fill plates that maximize the air–water contact surface, achieving peak evaporative heat transfer. Average service life: 10–15 years without replacement under normal water quality.
Cooling Tower Spray Nozzles
Cooling tower spray nozzles ensure uniform distribution of hot water across the fill surface. HK Makine systems use large-bore manifolds and clog-resistant nozzles, extending annual maintenance intervals and preventing capacity loss from uneven distribution.
Cooling Tower Fan Motor
The cooling tower fan motor directly determines energy consumption. HK Makine models offer a range from 0.75 kW to 15 kW. All fans feature CNC-machined, dynamically balanced aluminium or GFK blades operating below 55 dB(A). VFD (inverter) drive option delivers up to 20% energy savings by automatically adjusting fan speed to cooling demand.
